The New Jersey Devils have recalled forward prospect Pavel Zacha from AHL Albany, paving the way for the sixth overall pick in 2015 to make his NHL debut against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday.
Zacha’s season with the OHL Sarnia Sting ended Tuesday with a first-round loss to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. He was assigned to the Albany Devils before being quickly recalled to the big club.
According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the team will announce after Saturday’s morning skate whether or not Zacha will play against the Leafs.
The 19-year-old is currently fifth in OHL playoff scoring after putting up six goals and 13 points in seven games.
He finished the regular season with 28 goals and 64 points in 51 games.
Whether or not the Czech forward plays in New Jersey’s final game of the season, he will join a very deep Albany squad for their Calder Cup run.
Zacha, Joseph Blandisi, Reid Boucher, Damon Severson and the recently waived Mike Sislo may all be available for an Albany team that has the third-highest points percentage in the AHL.
They look poised to meet the league-leading Toronto Marlies in the second round of the Calder Cup playoffs, as the two teams both reside in the league’s North Division.
