Devils’ Prout to have hearing for interference against Flyers’ Gudas

Everything was happening at Wells Fargo Center, with big hits being thrown between the Flyers and Devils, leading to two game misconducts and one referee getting mixed up in the middle of it all.

New Jersey Devils defenceman Dalton Prout will have a hearing on Monday for interfering with Radko Gudas during Saturday’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers.

The incident occurred midway through the second period after Gudas laid a questionable hit on Devils forward John Quenneville, who was trying to enter the Flyers’ zone. Moments later, Prout came off the bench on a line change, skated directly at Gudas and delivered the hit while he was returning to the Flyers’ bench.

Gudas stayed on the ice for some time before leaving the game with an upper-body injury.

For the hit, Prout was assessed a five-minute major and a game-misconduct penalty while he picked up an additional five minutes for dropping the gloves with Wayne Simmonds after the occurrence.

Prout was suspended for one game last season when he sucker-punched Tampa Bay Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov.

In 27 games this season, Prout has five points (all assists), 44 penalty minutes and is minus-two.
