The New Jersey Devils will be without the services of star forward Taylor Hall for the next three to four weeks as the forward recovers from arthroscopic knee surgery.
The team announced the news Wednesday afternoon, and said the procedure was needed to repair a torn meniscus in Hall’s left knee.
The winger has been placed on injured reserve.
Hall missed Tuesday’s matchup against the Dallas Stars with a lower body injury, but neither the extent nor the cause of his injury was specified.
The loss of Hall for the next month will certainly be noticed in New Jersey — Hall has the team lead in goals (five) and points (12) and is second in assists (seven), and is a big part of the club’s early success so far this season. The Devils currently sit in fifth place in the NHL with a 9-3-3 record through 15 games.
The Devils have since called up forward Blake Pietila from their AHL affiliate, the Albany Devils.
Pietila played seven games in the NHL with New Jersey last season, scoring once and adding an assist. In the AHL, he has picked up six goals and 11 points in 12 games so far this year.
