We didn’t know Loretta Workun, but we sure wish we did.

Workun died on May 30 at age 85, and her family paid tribute to her with a pretty incredible obituary published in the Edmonton Journal on Monday along with a message for the Edmonton Oilers.

In it, the family describes Workun as a “kick-ass sporty mom” who is “not above haunting Rogers Place” if the Oilers don’t win the Stanley Cup next year.

Here’s the full obituary:

[blockquote]“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our kick-ass sporty mom. She was grumpy and fiery till the end.

“Somehow she was survived by two fat kids and one grumpy old kid. In passing she joins her husband and son, both of whom she can now tell again to: ‘go soak your heads!’

“No service, but she warns the Oilers that they better win next year because she’s not above haunting Rogers Place.”[/blockquote]

Workun and the rest of Oilers nation endured more than a decade without post-season hockey in Edmonton before the young club earned a playoff spot this year—their first season in the new rink. They defeated the San Jose Shark in Round 1 but were ousted by the Anaheim Ducks in Round 2.
