The Calgary Flames are cutting Troy Brouwer.

The team placed the winger on unconditional waivers on Thursday for the purpose of buying out his contract.

Brouwer had six goals and 22 points in 76 games this past season.

The 32-year-old has two years remaining on the four-year deal he signed in 2016, carrying a $4.5-million cap hit.

A buyout would leave the Flames with a $1.5-million cap charge through the 2021-22 season.
