Paul Bissonnette won’t be the only Twitter fiend trying to land a spot on an elite NHL roster.
The St. Louis Blues announced Friday that they have also invited defenceman Ryan Whitney to training camp as a professional tryout.
The 31-year-old unrestricted free agent was invited to Blues training camp last season as well, but ended up inking a one-year, $900,000 deal with the Florida Panthers.
In seven games with Florida last season, Whitney registered six penalty minutes but failed to get on the score sheet. The veteran did have 16 points in 45 games played for the AHL’s San Antonio Rampage.
The Boston native has appeared in 481 career NHL games with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Anaheim Ducks, Edmonton Oilers and Panthers, registering 50 goals and 209 assists (259 points).
Bissonnette, 29, was not re-signed by the Arizona Coyotes after playing 39 games for the club last season.
Both veterans are attempting to crack a strong roster known for its depth.
The Blues had 60 players on their training camp roster when on-ice practice kicked off Friday.
