Vegas Golden Knights defenceman Nate Schmidt has injured his ankle during off-season training, the team announced on Thursday.
The injury will keep Schmidt from participating in a scheduled street hockey clinic with the team in Bozeman, Mont., on Friday. The team says the event will still go ahead as scheduled without Schmidt.
Schmidt was claimed by the Golden Knights from the Washington Capitals at the expansion draft. He recently was awarded a two-year, $4.5-million contract from an arbitrator.
The 26-year-old had three goals and 17 points in 60 games last season with the Capitals.
