Gotta See It: Hudler crashes Lakers practice

Calgary Flames forward In full gear, Jiri Hudler crashes the L.A. Lakers shoot-around in Philadelphia.

File under “completely random.”

A Calgary Flame crashing a Los Angeles Lakers practice in Philadelphia.

The two visiting sports clubs both found themselves in Philadelphia Friday, the Lakers set to play the Sixers Friday evening and the Flames in town for a Saturday matinee against the Flyers.

Fine.

So why in the name of Gail Goodrich is Jiri Hudler firing poorly aimed jump shots on the Wells Fargo Center court during a Lakers shoot-around — in full gear? (Dude looks more protected than Rip Hamilton.)

Flyers beat writer Sarah Baicker explained the situation to the700level.com: “When NHL teams arrive in Philly early and the ice isn’t down at the Center, they practice at the rink at UPenn. But it’s a very old and crappy rink. So the players dress in the NHL visitors locker room at the Wells Fargo Center, except for their skates. Then take a bus to and from Penn.”

Once Lakers coach Mike D’Antoni gets off his phone and spots Hudler, his look is priceless.
