The bizarre surrounds Radko Gudas this October.
Mere days ago the Tampa Bay Lightning defenceman tipped in one of the most remarkable own-goals we’ve seen, and on Sunday he gets ejected after his unfavourable response to being squirted with liquid from the Florida Panthers’ bench.
With 7:09 remaining in the second period, the Lightning blue-liner attempts to lay a neutral-zone hit. He misses and falls on his rear end near the Panthers bench. Florida forward Scottie Upshall, sitting on the bench, reaches over with a water bottle and squirts Gudas with what was thought to be water.
Gudas gets up, spins around, and temporarily goes Hulk, slashing the boards at the Florida bench.
While Upshall serves a two-minute bench minor for unsportsmanlike conduct, Gudas is dealt two minutes for slashing, a 10-minute misconduct, plus a game misconduct.
Gudas had scored a power-play goal earlier in the game, but his ejection left the Lightning with only five defencemen for the remainder of the contest. Florida rallied to tie the game in the third, but the Lightning defeated their state rivals 4-3 in the shootout.
