Report: Gretzky offered coaching job in Russia

Wayne Gretzky has been offered a job to coach in the Russian Continental Hockey League (KHL), according to a report from the Edmonton Journal.

The SKA St. Petersburg job recently became vacant after American coach Barry Smith resigned from the post after his club lost to Riga in the KHL playoffs.

Various sources state that Gretzky has been in close contact with the KHL in recent months. He was reportedly at the league’s All-Star game in January. Added to that, the Great One was apparently seen frequenting the Russia House during the Olympic Games in Vancouver. St. Petersburg has not commented publicly on these reports.
