Detroit Red Wings forward Gustav Nyquist retaliated with an ugly looking high-stick to the face of Jared Spurgeon on Sunday.
Nyquist was upset after being shoved with a cross-check by Spurgeon and responded by jamming his stick blade up into the face of the Minnesota Wild defenceman.
The refs assessed Nyquist with a double-minor for high-sticking, though it’s quite possible the league’s department of player safety will assess further discipline for the reckless play.
The 27-year-old Swede has never been suspended in his NHL career.
