Carolina Hurricanes forward Jordan Martinook left Thursday’s opening-round Game 4 against the Washington Capitals with a lower-body injury and didn’t return.
Martinook crashed awkwardly into the boards attempting to check Capitals defenceman Dmitry Orlov midway through the first period.
He was slow to get up and needed help off the ice, visibly favouring his right leg.
The 26-year-old attempted to stay in the game late in the first, but wasn’t able to.
The Hurricanes were already down two other forwards in Andrei Svechnikov and Micheal Ferland.
