After calling the Carolina Hurricanes “a bunch of jerks” for carrying out choreographed celebrations following wins on home ice, Don Cherry has taken his critique of the organization into the stands of PNC Arena.
During Saturday night’s Coach’s Corner segment, Cherry touched on the Hurricanes’ home attendance numbers during the regular season, then took matters a step further by criticizing the fans themselves.
“These people that are there now, now that they’re winning, front-running fans as far as I’m concerned,” said Cherry, who then proceeded to back up his earlier stance on the team’s celebrations.
Well, if the Hurricanes’ Twitter account serves as any indication, the organization has once again chosen to embrace Cherry’s comments by marketing them on T-shirts.
That’s right: The team is planning to sell hilarious Cherry-inspired T-shirts that say “Bunch of front running jerks” on them ahead of the Hurricanes’ Eastern Conference final matchup.
While Carolina waits to find out its next playoff opponent in the coming days — either Columbus or Boston — the team’s marketing department is certainly doing a great job of keeping its fans engaged as the Hurricanes continue what has been nothing short of a remarkable post-season push.
