The Signing: Jonas Hiller, G, 32, signs with the Calgary Flames
The Deal: 2 years, $9 million
The Cap Hit: $4.5 million
Where he fits: Hiller slots right in as Calgary’s No. 1 netminder.
The Good: He’s a veteran who’s played well for a winner before. He’ll stabilize the goal for a team that’s needed stability since Miikka Kiprusoff retired. And at just two years, he will not handcuff the Flames with regards to the cap moving forward.
The Bad: He’s a veteran who’s used to winning. The question will be how he reacts to a young, mistake-prone squad. He’s also showed some inconsistency—at times he was brilliant during his seven seasons with the Ducks, but he also lost the top job to relative no-names on a couple of occasions.
The Grade: B-
