Despite years of incompetence both on and off the ice and multiple failed ownership bids, the lowlight of the New York Islanders’ existence may rest between the years of 1995 and 1997 when the team sported its infamous “Fisherman” jerseys.

Having long since taken its place in the annals of hockey’s most humiliating moments, the Islanders’ “Fisherman” sweater is poised for a comeback.

The team will wear a modernized version of the jersey during warmups for a game versus the Florida Panthers on Feb. 3.

Here’s a look at the jerseys, via Imgur:

It appears the Islanders have ditched the wavy piping of the original sweaters, which is probably for the best.

Fans can bid on the jerseys beginning Jan. 9 through Jan. 27. Proceeds from the auction will go to the Islanders Children’s Foundation.

The Islanders are playing out their final season in Nassau Coliseum before embarking for a new home in Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. The decision to bring back the “Fisherman” logo is nice bit of fan service for those who can never unsee this abomination of a jersey.
