Jaromir Jagr vows to bring back mullet

Despite his advanced age, Jaromir Jagr is not above battling for position in front of the net, even if his opponent is Zdeno Chara. Unfortunately, Jagr came out worse for wear in this fight.

Roberto Luongo has done us all a great service.

The Florida Panthers goaltender began campaigning for 43-year-old teammate Jaromir Jagr to bring back his mullet two weeks ago.

And Monday brought a flow of good news.

The affable, indestructible, unblackmailable Jagr told Panthers beat reporter George Richards that he is indeed bringing back his hockey pelt of yore.

“I’m growing it back. I have to,” Jagr told Richards. “We have to wear helmets, so that’s why I’m growing my hair back out.”

The winger, who had been going with a more streamlined look for years, said he is already begun cultivating that party in the back — a decision which could solve the Panthers’ attendance issues.

Thousands of retweets and shouts of approval from hockey fans ensued. (The Jagr “news” coincides with Mario Lemieux’s 50th birthday Monday, so feel free to drown yourself in a pool of Pittsburgh Penguins nostalgia.)

Luongo himself replied on Twitter with a victorious, “Guys we did it!!!!!”
