Jets’ Jacob Trouba out 6-8 weeks with lower-body injury

Winnipeg Jets head coach Paul Maurice talks about the lower body injury to defenceman Jacob Trouba.

The Winnipeg Jets will be without defenceman Jacob Trouba for the next 6-8 weeks after he suffered a lower-body injury in Thursday’s game against the San Jose Sharks.

Head coach Paul Maurice confirmed the injury after practice on Monday.

Trouba, 23, was in the middle of a breakout season with the Jets. He has three goals and 20 points with a plus-six rating in 50 games this season. He is also second on the team in ice time, averaging 22:09 per game.

The Jets are already without centre Mark Scheifele, who hasn’t played since suffering a shoulder injury on Dec. 27. Maurice didn’t have much of an update on Scheifele on Monday, only saying that he is still tracking to return during the 6-8 week window originally set at the time of the injury.
