Winnipeg Jets defenceman Joshua Morrissey has been fined for Wednesday’s hit on the Washington Capitals‘ T.J. Oshie, the NHL Department of Player Safety announced Thursday.
Morrissey has been fined $8,467.74, the maximum allowable under the CBA.
Late in the third period on Wednesday, Morrissey threw Oshie to the ice in the corner following a brief battle for the puck. Oshie appeared dazed following the play and Morrissey did not receive a penalty.
It’s unclear how much time, if any, Oshie might miss.
The play is similar in nature to the one from earlier this season involving Michael Matheson of the Florida Panthers and Vancouver Canucks rookie Elias Pettersson.
Matheson was suspended two games for the play below that resulted in Pettersson sustaining a concussion.
