Joe Pavelski is likely to be named the next captain of the San Jose Sharks and according to Sportsnet’s Damien Cox it could happen before the end of the season.
The team stripped Joe Thornton of his captaincy in the summer, opting instead to enter the 2014-15 campaign with four alternate captains — Thornton, Pavelski, Patrick Marleau and Marc-Edouard Vlasic.
Pavelski has spent his entire career with the Sharks after being drafted by them 205th overall 2003. In 592 career regular season NHL games, the 30-year-old has 206 goals and 235 assists. Through 31 games this season, the Plover, Wisc., native has 26 points and leads his team in goals with 15.
