John Tortorella wears hoodie on bench to battle flu-like symptoms

Watch as John Tortorella keeps himself warm in Columbus by wearing a hoodie instead of a suit on the bench.

Well now we’ve seen everything.

Instead of the typical suit and tie hockey coaches have worn for decades, Columbus Blue Jackets head coach John Tortorella took a more casual approach to his attire on Thursday in Philadelphia.

Cameras spotted Torts on the bench in a team-branded hoodie, looking like he should be coaching in the NFL.

While the jokes began coming in on Twitter, a team spokesperson confirmed to Aaron Portzline of The Athletic that Tortorella wasn’t looking to make a fashion statement. He was suffering from flu-like symptoms.

Portzline added that Blue Jackets’ assistant coach Brad Shaw is also under the weather, and spent the night in the hospital with an abdominal strain.

Here’s hoping all the Blue Jackets coaches can return to good health quickly. Although it won’t be as quick as it took the team to make a joke, turning their name from the Blue Jackets to the Blue Hoodies on Twitter.
