Veteran forward Paul Kariya will miss the next NHL season after being diagnosed with post-concussion syndrome.

Kariya announced the decision through a release from his agent Friday.

The 35 year old is a free agent after spending the last three seasons with St. Louis.

Kariya scored 18 goals and added 25 assists with the Blues last season.

Kariya missed six games last December and January after sustaining a concussion. He also missed playing for Canada 1998 Winter Olympics because of a concussion.

The two-time Lady Byng Trophy winner has 402 goals and 587 assists in a 15-year career with Anaheim, Colorado, Nashville and St. Louis.
