Kassian taunts Gagner about protective shield

Roberto Luongo made 19 saves for his third shutout of the season and the 65th of his career Friday as the Vancouver Canucks defeated the Edmonton Oilers 4-0 for their sixth straight victory.

Back in September, Canucks forward Zack Kassian was suspended three pre-season and five regular-season games for recklessly swinging his stick at Oilers centre Sam Gagner. Gagner suffered a broken jaw on the play and missed four weeks before re-joining the Oilers wearing a protective shield.

On Friday, Gagner faced off against Kassian for the first time since the incident, still with a shield protecting his jaw, but that didn’t buy him any sympathy points with the Canucks forward.

Instead, Kassian appeared to taunt Gagner about his face guard during a scrum that broke out at the team benches near the end of Vancouver’s 4-0 win.

Kassian was jawing (no pun intended) with Oilers tough guy Luke Gazdic throughout the encounter, leading some to believe he was mocking him about his facial hair. But come on, a career agitator has better material than making fun of a guy’s beard.

Judge for yourself.
