Oilers’ Khabibulin to undergo ‘spinal thing’

According to Edmonton Oilers coach Pat Quinn, injured goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin will undergo “a spinal thing” to further investigate the source of his on-going back issues.

Khabibulin has not played since being a scratch against his former team, the Chicago Blackhawks, on November 21, 2009. In the 12 games since that date, Khabibulin has not even stepped on the ice.

The 36-year-old Russian signed a four-year free agent deal with the Oilers in the summer and has played in 18 games so far, winning seven with a 3.03 goals against average.

Inother injury news, the Oilers expect to have defenceman Denis Grebeshkov back in the lineup on Tuesday after he missed the previous 13 games with a knee injury.
