KHL defending champion Dynamo Moscow will try to sign Washington Capitals star forward Alex Ovechkin in the event of an NHL lockout, according to a report.
NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said if no new collective bargaining agreement is reached by Sept. 15, when the current CBA is set to expire, the owners will lockout the players.
Dynamo general manager Andrey Safronov told Russian newspaper Ria Novosti his club will try to land Ovechkin.
“We will talk with Ovechkin,” Safronov told the paper. “It will be up to the head coach.”
Ovechkin, 26, previously played with Dynamo for four seasons from 2001-02 to 2004-05 when the club was part of the Russian Superleague, the predecessor of the KHL.
