Pittsburgh Penguins defenceman Kris Letang has been named captain of the Metropolitan Division team at the 2020 NHL All-Star Game.

Letang was not originally selected to the All-Star Game at all, but will now find himself wearing the “C” after a number of players dropped out.

Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals was originally chosen in a fan vote to captain the Metropolitan Division, but dropped out for the second straight year to rest.

Jake Guentzel was originally selected as the Penguins’ representative at the All-Star Game, but was forced to pull out after suffering a season-ending shoulder injury. Letang was then chosen as Pittsburgh’s player and now finds himself promoted to team captain.

Letang will be making his sixth All-Star Game appearance. The All-Star Game will be held in St. Louis on Jan. 25.
