BUFFALO, N.Y. — The lawyer for a woman who alleged she was sexually assaulted by Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane is scheduled to speak to reporters.
Thomas Eoannou has scheduled a news conference in Buffalo for 1 p.m. EDT on Wednesday. He has not revealed the purpose of the news conference.
It will be the first time he has spoken publicly about the case since Hamburg police launched an investigation against Kane in early August.
Kane is accused of sexually assaulting a woman in her 20s at his off-season home in suburban Buffalo on Aug. 2.
Kane has not been charged. His attorney, Paul Cambria, declined comment when asked about Eoannou’s decision to hold a news conference.
A person familiar with the situation says Kane did not travel to Detroit with the rest of his team for Wednesday’s Blackhawks game against the Red Wings. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because Kane’s travel plans were not publicly announced.
Kane played in the preseason opener in Chicago on Tuesday night. It’s common for teams to rest players when playing on consecutive days in the preseason.
