Should Leafs’ Nazem Kadri be suspended for hit on Tommy Wingels?

Nazem Kadri could be looking at a suspension after hitting Tommy Wingels against the boards while he was already down.

With only one night of playoff action in the books, suspensions have already started to roll as Los Angeles Kings defender Drew Doughty was handed a one-game ban for his actions on Wednesday night. On Thursday, Toronto Maple Leafs centreman Nazem Kadri may have earned himself a similar fate.

Midway through the third period of Toronto’s Game 1 match with the Boston Bruins, Kadri took down Boston forward Tommy Wingels with a controversial check, connecting with the latter’s numbers after Wingels had fallen to his knees against the boards.

Kadri’s questionable contact, however, occurred directly after Wingels’ own elbow to the head of young Leafs winger Mitch Marner just moments earlier.

After a scrum ensued, Kadri was handed a five-minute charging major and a game misconduct for his actions. Wingels was able to skate off the ice and head to the locker room.
