Maple Leafs acquire Matt Lorito from Islanders for Jordan Schmaltz

The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired forward Matt Lorito from the New York Islanders in exchange for defenceman Jordan Schmaltz.

Lorito, 29, has skated in 50 games for the AHL’s Bridgeport Sound Tigers this season, notching nine goals and 23 points. The Oakville, Ont., native has 210 points across 275 career AHL games with three teams but has only featured in a pair of NHL games, with the Detroit Red Wings in 2016-17.

The 26-year-old Schmaltz has two goals and 13 points in 37 games for the Toronto Marlies in the AHL this season after being acquired by the Leafs in a July trade with the St. Louis Blues. The Madison, Wisc., native has suited up in 42 career NHL contests, all with the Blues.
