Maple Leafs goalie Garret Sparks leaves game with lower-body injury

Garret Sparks looks to be injured after this goal from Patrick Marleau, forcing Jonathan Bernier into the game early for the Maple Leafs.

Garret Sparks‘ Thursday start for the Toronto Maple Leafs against the San Jose Sharks was a brief one.

The Maple Leafs goaltender left Thursday’s game with a lower-body injury less than 15 minutes into the first period after allowing two goals on 14 shots. He was replaced by Jonathan Bernier.

Sparks appeared to be flexing his left leg after Patrick Marleau scored to give the Sharks a 2-0 lead and immediately headed to the dressing room.

The 22-year-old Sparks has appeared in four games this season for Toronto prior to Thursday’s start, recording a .921 save percentage with one shutout.

The Maple Leafs will likely provide an update on Sparks following their game with San Jose.
