The Toronto Maple Leafs have recalled defenceman Kevin Gravel from their AHL affiliate.

Regular defenceman Travis Dermott was absent from Leafs practice in Ottawa this morning due. It is reported that Dermott is sick.

The move comes one day after the Leafs returned forward Tyler Gaudet to the AHL.

Gravel has appeared in three games with the Maple Leafs this season while Dermott was injured back in October. He did not record any points and averaged 11 minutes per game before being sent back to the Marlies on Oct. 29.

In eight games with the Marlies, Gravel has not recorded any points and has a plus-four rating. He has not played since Nov. 9.

The six-foot-four Gravel was a fifth-round draft pick of the Los Angeles Kings in 2010 and has spent time with the Kings and Edmonton Oilers during his career. He signed with the Maple Leafs on a one-year, $700,000 deal last summer.

The Leafs, who are currently tied for the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference, host the Ottawa Senators on Saturday night.
