Maple Leafs sign Pierre Engvall to a two-year contract extension

The Hockey Central crew weighs in on the news that the Maple Leafs have locked up young winger Pierre Engvall for the next two years, on the cheap.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed forward Pierre Engvall to a two-year, $2.5-million contract extension.

Engvall, 23, was scheduled to become a restricted free agent after this season.

In 35 games with the Maple Leafs this season — his first in the NHL — Engvall has seven goals and 14 points.

He was originally a seventh-round pick by the Leafs in 2014.
