Marchand fined for slew foot on Niskanen

Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand was handed a $2,500 fine by the NHL on Monday for slew-footing Pittsburgh Penguins defenceman Matt Niskanen.

The incident occurred in the second period of the Bruins-Penguins game Dec. 5 when Marchand engaged Niskanen behind the net, dragged his skate and threw the Penguins blueliner to the ice.

Marchand was assessed a minor penalty for tripping on the play.

The third-year forward was suspended two games last season for an elbow to the head of Columbus Blue Jackets forward R.J. Umberger.
