ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Minnesota Wild have hired Dean Evason as an assistant coach.
The 53-year-old Evason spent the last six seasons as head coach of the Milwaukee Admirals in the AHL, the primary affiliate of the Nashville Predators. Evason was an assistant coach for the Washington Capitals for seven years before that. Five of those came with current Wild head coach Bruce Boudreau.
Evason had 139 goals and 233 assists in 803 career NHL games over 13 seasons as a player with five teams. That included three seasons with the Hartford Whalers as a teammate of Paul Fenton, who’s now general manager of the Wild.
The Wild also announced Wednesday they won’t renew the contract of assistant coach John Anderson, who has been a long-time colleague and friend of Boudreau.
