Gotta Hear It: Jagr mimics Ruutu-to-Tootoo call

When Jordin Tootoo signed a one-year deal with the New Jersey Devils this month, fans of a good rhyme salivated at the possibilities.

Indeed, the Nunavut forward will debut on Jersey’s fourth line Thursday night alongside Stephen Gionta and — more important for our purposes — Tuomo Ruutu.

Excited to hear Devils broadcaster Ken Daneyko calling a Tootoo-Ruutu two-on-one, Jaromir Jagr joked around with the media in advance of the season opener against the Philadelphia Flyers. Listen to the old guy rolls those R’s:

One more reason to love Jagr, whom we hope plays until he’s 60.

Fun fact: A total of 155 players on this season’s opening rosters weren’t even born when Jagr made his NHL debut on Oct. 5, 1990.

The winger will try to build on his NHL record for most career points in season openers (11 goals, 24 assists, 35 points) Thursday night.

The Devils-Flyers game airs on MSG Plus and, of course, Rogers GameCentre Live. Keep your ears peeled for a Dr. Suess-esque play-by-play call.
