NEWARK, N.J. — The New Jersey Devils have signed goaltender Cory Schneider to a seven year, $42 million contract extension.
Schneider was acquired by the Devils from the Vancouver Canucks at the NHL draft in June 2013.
He was 16-15-12 record in 45 games with New Jersey last season and posted a 1.97 goals-against average, third best in the NHL.
"With today’s signing, we have solidified our goaltending for the present and the future," GM Lou Lamoriello said. "Cory demonstrated throughout the year what he could bring to our organization, both on and off the ice."
The 28-year-old Schneider would have been an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2014-15 season.
Last week, the Devils had signed veteran Scott Clemmensen to be Schneider’s backup.
