NHL announces pre-season schedule

Watch as NHL commissioner Gary Bettman hands the Stanley Cup to Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The National Hockey League released its pre-season schedule Wednesday.

The pre-season kicks off on Sunday, September 25 with the Columbus Blue Jackets and St. Louis Blues set for a pair of split-squad games. The Battle of Ontario heads east on Monday, September 26 with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators facing off in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Lumby, B.C., winners of the Kraft Hockeyville competition, will see the Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings in town on October 2, with the nearby city of Vernon hosting a pre-season game (broadcast in Canada on Sportsnet at 6 p.m. PT/9 p.m. ET).

Canadian neutral sites set to play host to pre-season games are as follows: Halifax, N.S. (Ottawa vs. Toronto, Sept. 26); Hamilton, Ont. (Detroit vs. Toronto, Oct. 7);London, Ont. (Dallas vs. Florida, Oct. 2); Quebec City, Que. (Boston vs. Montreal, Oct. 4); St. Catharines, Ont. (Buffalo vs. Toronto, Sept. 29); Saskatoon, Sask. (Toronto vs. Ottawa, Oct. 4); Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.

The NHL regular season begins Wednesday, October 12.
