NHL Awards ceremony heads back to Las Vegas

The National Hockey League announced that its annual end-of-season awards show will take place in Las Vegas for the next three years.

The NHL agreed to a new multi-year partnership with the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, and the Wynn and the Encore Theater, which will continue a tradition that began in 2009.

“Las Vegas knows energy, entertainment and star power — elements that our players display every night,” NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said in a press release Saturday. “The city, the Wynn and the Encore Theater will provide a spectacular setting for our end-of-season festivities over the next three years.”

The awards show takes place on June 20 and will be in conjunction with numerous new events designed for fans, players and visitors to the city.

“Las Vegas is excited to welcome the NHL Awards back to the destination,” president and CEO of LVCVA Rossi Ralenkotter said. “We have enjoyed a great partnership, and we look forward to providing another great experience for the league, the players and of course the fans.”

Awards handed out that night will include the Hart Trophy for most valuable player, the Vezina Trophy for outstanding goaltender, the Norris Trophy for outstanding defenseman, and the Calder Trophy for outstanding rookie.
