The NHL has fined Edmonton Oilers forward Milan Lucic the maximum $10,000 for roughing the Tampa Bay Lighting’s Mathieu Joseph.

During the second period of Tuesday evening’s Oilers-Lightning matchup, Lucic knocked over the rookie Joseph and then repeatedly punched him in the head.

Lucic went after Joseph in retaliation for a hit from behind the Tampa winger delivered on Oilers defenceman Kris Russell earlier in the game.

The 30-year-old Lucic was assessed a couple of minor penalties and given a game misconduct on the play.
