Nylander on Leafs’ top line: ‘We complement each other really well’

Chris Johnston and Shawn McKenzie breakdown the Toronto Maple Leafs' Monday night victory against the Anaheim Ducks. How the top line stacks up, Jake Gardiner's recent play, and the options if Frederik Andersen is hurt long-term.

Scoring five of the seven Toronto Maple Leafs goals against the Anaheim Ducks on Monday, the top line combination of Auston Matthews, William Nylander and Zach Hyman had a night to remember.

According Monday’s first star, Nylander, however, that kind of offensive explosion shouldn’t come as much of a surprise because of the chemistry the trio have with each other.

“I think we’re able to complement each other really well,” Nylander said on Sportsnet 590 The FAN’s Good Show Tuesday afternoon. “Auston, you know how he can score goals, create space, I mean, [it’s] unreal having a player like that on your line – [he’s] one of the best in the league.

“And then you’ve got Hyman, who’s been working hard and getting pucks back and finding himself in front of the net. It creates space for us, me and Auston, to do our thing, so I think we complement each other really well.”

In total, Nylander, Matthews and Hyman combined for seven points on Monday. The line has tallied 48 goals and 114 points on the season.

Toronto’s top line will likely see a lot of Roman Josi and Ryan Ellis when the Nashville Predators visit the Air Canada Centre on Wednesday.
