Oilers’ Khaira to have hearing for cross-checking Blues’ Dunn

Oilers forward Jujhar Khaira will have a hearing for this major cross-check he delivered to Blues’ defenceman Vince Dunn, he already served 5 minutes and a game misconduct.

The NHL Department of Player Safety could hand out more discipline after a wild cross-checking sequence in Tuesday’s game between the Edmonton Oilers and St. Louis Blues.

Edmonton forward Jujhar Khaira will have a hearing for cross-checking the Blues’ Vince Dunn, while Dunn was fined $1,942.20, the maximum allowed, for cross-checking Khaira.

The play occurred halfway through the third period. After Khaira laid a hit on Dunn in the Blues defensive zone, Dunn responded with a cross-check to Khaira’s head. Khaira then turned around and cross-checked Dunn in the head, knocking him to the ice in the process.

Dunn was given a two-minute penalty on the play while Khaira was given a five-minute major and a 10-minute misconduct.

If suspended, it will be Khaira’s first ban since he broke into the NHL in 2015-16. The 24-year-old has two goals and 13 points in 33 games.
