The Edmonton Oilers have placed forward Alex Chiasson on injured reserve and have recalled forward Kailer Yamamoto from the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors, the team announced Friday.

Chiasson was forced out of the Oilers’ loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday after blocking a shot during the second period. Head coach Ken Hitchcock said the 28-year-old went for an MRI after experiencing soreness.

In 31 games this season, Chiasson has 14 goals, four assists and 20 points and was playing on the top line with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. He was signed to a one-year contract after joining the team on a professional tryout during training camp.

Yamamoto has played in 12 games for the Oilers this season, scoring a goal and adding an assist while adding four goals, four assists and eight points in 11 games with the AHL’s Condors.
