Oilers sell out Rogers Place ‘watch party’ in less than two minutes

Edmonton Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl had three career playoff goals coming into Game 6 against the Anaheim Ducks, and in just two periods, he has doubled that with his first career NHL playoff hat trick.

Even though Game 7 between the Edmonton Oilers and Anaheim Ducks takes place at the Honda Center in California, there will be more people watching the series-deciding contest at Rogers Place in Alberta.

The Honda Center has a capacity of 17,174 for Ducks games, but the Oilers announced they sold all 18,000 available tickets for the “Orange Crush Road Game 7 Watch Party” in less than two minutes Tuesday.

Oilers fans have been flooding Rogers Place throughout the playoffs. The team has sold more than 100,000 tickets for these viewing parties so far in the post-season.

“Net proceeds from ticket sales support the initiatives of the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation,” according to a press release.

[gamecard id=1878773 league=nhl date=2017-05-10] Following a frustrating Game 5 double-overtime loss in Anaheim, Connor McDavid said matter-of-factly: “It sucks, but we’ll be back here Wednesday.” Clearly, Oilers fans at the “Orange Crush Road Game 5 Watch Party” at Rogers Place were saying the same thing.

The Oilers trounced the Ducks 7-1 in Game 6 on Sunday to force Game 7, which can be seen on Sportsnet Wednesday with coverage starting at 10 p.m. ET / 8 p.m. MT.
