Oilers sign goalie Mike Smith to one-year, $2 million contract

HC panel chats with newest Oilers goalie Mike Smith, who's excited to infuse serious veteran leadership into the locker room, and to reunite with head coach Dave Tippett for the third time in his career.

The Edmonton Oilers have signed veteran goalie Mike Smith to a one-year, $2 million contract.

Smith confirmed the signing in an interview on Sportsnet Monday.

The 37-year-old is staying in Alberta after having played the last two seasons with the Calgary Flames.

In 42 games last season he posted a 23-16-2 record with a 2.73 goals-against average and .898 save percentage.
