The Florida Panthers announced Tuesday that they will be signing Olli Jokinen to an honorary one-day contract so the former captain can retire as a member of the team.
The 38-year-old played seven seasons for the Panthers, wearing the C for four of them. He’s the franchise’s all-time leader in points (419), goals (188), game-winning goals (36), overtime goals (10), power-play points (153), and shots (1,837).
Jokinen was drafted by Los Angeles third overall in 1997 before being traded to the New York Islanders.
The Panthers acquired the big Finn, along with goaltender Roberto Luongo at the 2000 NHL Draft in exchange for Mark Parrish and Oleg Kvasha.
