Cameron warned by NHL for Subban comments

Jeff Marek, Billy Jaffe and Doug MacLean discuss the comments of Ottawa Senators head coach Dave Cameron following the slash of Montreal Canadiens defenceman P.K. Subban on Sens forward Mark Stone last night in Game 1.

Ottawa Senators head coach Dave Cameron wasn’t fined for his comments about P.K. Subban’s slash on Mark Stone, but he did receive a warning from league officials, an NHL source confirmed to Sportsnet’s John Shannon.

Following the Senators’ 4-3 loss to the Montreal Canadiens in Game 1 of their opening-round series, Cameron suggested Subban should be suspended before making some ominous comments regarding what might happen to Canadiens players later in the series.

“I think it’s an easy solution: You either suspend him or one of their best players gets slashed and just give us five. Not that complicated,” Cameron told reporters Wednesday.

Subban was given five minutes and a game misconduct for a play that resulted in Stone suffering a microfracture to his wrist. Stone’s availability for Friday’s Game 2 is currently unknown.

On Thursday, Senators general manager Bryan Murray spoke to the media and said Subban threatened Stone prior to the incident, something the 2013 Norris Trophy winner denies.
