Having announced his retirement earlier this year, you won’t see 40-year-old Owen Nolan back on the ice anytime soon — unless, he’s cutting a circle in it and plopping in a fishing line.
Nolan, whose last NHL season was for the Minnesota Wild in 2009-10, is set to host a Sportsman360TV, a new outdoors program that follows Nolan as “he travels the continent fishing & hunting at premiere destinations abroad.”
@sportsman360tv will not always be about the trophies but what really happens when buddies get together outdoors.Fun,pranks & heckling— Owen Nolan (@OwenNolan11) July 31, 2012
The show, according to the former San Jose Shark captain’s Twitter account, starts filming pilot episodes this month.
Nolan, who previously co-hosted Fish TV on the World Fishing Network, wrote this explanation of his angling love on the channel’s website:
“I don’t remember how old I was when I started fishing; but I was definitely very young. I remember when my dad took me for the first time I was hooked for life. Growing up I was lucky enough to have friends who enjoyed fishing, which made it even better. Every chance we had, whether we walked or rode our bike, we went fishing all the time. As I got older, I wanted to start fishing all over the world. It didn’t matter what species it was, if I had a rod and reel in my hand I was happy. I’ve been fortunate enough to experience great fishing from different parts of the world. From salmon runs in Alaska to peacock bass smacking top water lures in Venezuela, and everywhere in between. I believe that to really enjoy fishing, you shouldn’t limit yourself to just one type of fish, or style of fishing. Experience as much as you can and you’ll be hooked for life.”
