Jaromir Jagr has only been in the Sunshine State for 12 games, but the impact he has had on the club has Florida Panthers general manager Dale Tallon thinking contract extension, reports George Richards of the Miami Herald.
With just eight games left and his club five points out of a playoff spot entering Saturday night’s game against the Montreal Canadiens, Tallon will wait until the end of the season before discussing an extension.
“This is too important a time; we’ll get to it when time is right. We’ll talk after the season,” Tallon told Richards.
Regardless of how things turn out in the off-season it seems that the ball is in Jagr’s court at this point. With the Panthers sporting a young core, the veteran’s presence has been well received by the club.
Jagr has two goals and nine points in 12 games with Florida, and 13 goals and 38 points in 69 games in his 21st NHL season at the age of 43.
However, don’t let his age fool you. The surefire Hockey Hall of Famer is hoping to play in the NHL until he’s 50. A seven-year contract extension may be far-fetched, but Jagr’s commitment to the game is unwavering at this point in his career.
