The Florida Panthers are currently sitting in first place in the Atlantic Division and first place in the weird post-game team “hero” award category.
The surprising hockey club awards its hero of the game with a hooded sweatshirt featuring the image of actor Kevin Spacey surrounded by stars.
The Panthers are now selling blue #SpaceyInSpace hoodies to benefit a team charity and the Kevin Spacey Foundation, according to Miami Herald beat writer George Richards.
The Panthers set the internet on fire when images of their game hero award #SpaceyInSpace sweaters first emerged in December. (Yeah, we’re not sure on the significance either but we can respect its awesomeness.)
Twenty-year-old Panthers star Aleksander Barkov extended thanks to Spacey after inking a six-year, $35.4-million contract Monday.
The Kevin Spacey Foundation “creates initiatives that discover, train, fund and mentor emerging artists in drama, dance, music, and film as well as offering life enhancing theatre-in-education projects,” according to the official website.
Here’s to the Panthers, one of the NHL’s biggest surprises this season and a hockey team that clearly knows how to have fun.
