Penguins bring back veteran Matt Cullen on 1-year deal

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Matt Cullen talks about winning the Stanley Cup.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-signed forward Matt Cullen to a one-year contract, the club announced Wednesday.

Cullen will earn $1 million against the salary cap for the 2016-17 season.

The Penguins signed Cullen as a free agent in August of 2015. The 39-year-old totalled 16 goals and 32 points in 82 games with Pittsburgh in 2015-16. Cullen added four goals and six points in 24 post-season contests with the Stanley Cup champion Penguins.

The Anaheim Ducks originally selected Cullen in the second round, 35th overall, in the 1996 NHL Draft. Cullen has scored 235 goals and totalled 658 points in 1,294 career games with the Ducks, Florida Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes, New York Rangers, Ottawa Senators, Minnesota Wild, Nashville Predators, and Penguins.
