The Pittsburgh Penguins have been dealt a big blow as they push to hold on to a playoff spot.
Head coach Mike Sullivan announced Sunday that centre Evgeni Malkin is week-to-week with an upper-body injury.
Malkin missed the Penguins’ 2-1 overtime loss to the Philadelphia Flyers with the injury. Despite the loss, the Penguins are still holding onto the third playoff spot in the Metropolitan Division, three points clear of the Carolina Hurricanes and four clear of the Columbus Blue Jackets.
In 66 games this season, Malkin has 21 goals and 71 points. He recently became with fifth Russian player in NHL history to reach the 1,000 point mark.
